Group-purchasing program helped 27 Frankfort homes install solar in 2023

FRANKFORT, KY (April 5, 2024) – The Kentucky Solar Energy Society announces the launch of “Solarize Frankfort 2024,” a discounted solar group-purchasing program that connects residents with pre-vetted, qualified solar contractors. Program enrollment runs from April 3 to July 31, 2024. Participants receive a free solar site assessment and cost estimate with no obligation to make a purchase.

Solarize Frankfort is a community-based campaign that directly addresses the three biggest barriers to going solar homeowners have: cost, finding a reliable and trusted installer, and getting informed and unbiased advice.
Daryl Hensley installed solar on his home during the 2023 Solarize campaign. “I had been considering solar when I heard about Solarize Frankfort,” said Mr. Hensley. “It was a relief to work with a company that had been pre-selected and vetted by the Solarize program, their price was affordable, and Pure Power Solar was a pleasure to work with.”
Solarize Frankfort installed solar on 27 Frankfort homes in 2023, helping reduce their long-term energy bills. Pure Power Solar, one of the campaign’s pre-approved contractors in 2023, will be back again in 2024, joined by Daily Green Power from Elizabethtown.

“The City is happy to support the Solarize Frankfort campaign and help educate homeowners and local businesses about how they can use solar power to potentially reduce their energy bills and environmental impact,” said Mayor Layne Wilkerson. The City of Frankfort has a goal of using 100% renewable energy community-wide by 2030.
Solarize Frankfort is one of four Solarize campaigns serving central Kentucky this year. The other campaigns are in Lexington, Louisville, and Boyle County. The Frankfort campaign is open to residents of Franklin County and the surrounding counties of Anderson, Woodford, Scott, Owen, and Henry County. Shelby County residents can participate through Solarize Louisville. The program’s two installation partners, Pure Power Solar and Daily Green Power, were selected through a rigorous bidding process based on their experience, work quality, equipment, service, and competitive prices.
“I’m excited to see people investing in their homes, making themselves more financially and environmentally sustainable,” said County Judge Executive Michael Mueller. “We’ve had solar on my home and business for years, and I think it’s a great investment for our community.”

Solarize Frankfort is organized by the Kentucky Solar Energy Society, in partnership with the City of Frankfort, Franklin County Fiscal Court, the KSU Land Grant Program, the UK Cooperative Extension Program, and Apogee-Climate & Energy Transitions.
