Judge Mueller and the Fiscal court congratulate the Capital City Activity Center for winning a Program of Excellence Award from the National Council on Aging. The council recognized the center’s excellence in social and support services through its Helping Hands Food Pantry. That program hands out more than 635 boxes of food each month to older adults who are experiencing food insecurity.
“Helping Hands Food Pantry is different from other pantries as our biggest food box program, Free Food Fridays, gives each participant the opportunity to choose their nutritious food items. We feel that by offering this “shopping experience’, food will be eaten and not thrown away. All our food programs are helping many Franklin County seniors who suffer from food insecurities. You don’t know the face of need, as it could very well be your senior neighbor. By offering these food programs at the Center, gives seniors a place to participate in these programs while keeping their dignity intact.” said Marchele Jenkins, Executive Director of Capital City Activity Center/Meals on Wheels Greater Frankfort.
We are thankful for the leadership of Marchele and the staff and volunteers who make these innovative programs possible. Please join us in celebrating the Capital City Activity Center’s wonderful achievement.
