Preliminary work beginning next week
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Aug. 2, 2024) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) announces work will soon begin on a recently awarded contract for an Interstate 64 and U.S. 127 interchange improvement project in Franklin County. The project will upgrade infrastructure to improve travel near the Paddocks of Frankfort and surrounding area.
The scope of the project includes the realigning of the I-64 West off-ramp to U.S. 127 North, as well as the realigning of the I-64 West on-ramp from U.S. 127. Other improvements include the installation of a new signalized intersection on U.S. 127 to provide access to development entrances, which will be activated following project completion. Additionally, the intersection of Westridge Drive and Leonardwood Drive will be reconstructed to accommodate dual left turns onto Westridge Drive from U.S. 127.
Preliminary work is set to begin the week of Monday, Aug. 5. Motorists should expect changing traffic patterns, lane shifts, and closures on U.S. 127 as construction progresses. Two 10-foot travel lanes will be maintained in each direction, with nightly and weekend lane reductions possible.
Earlier this week, signs notifying drivers of the upcoming work were placed in the area. Drivers should obey restrictions and drive cautiously through the work zone.
ATS Construction of Lexington, KY, was awarded the nearly $4 million contract. Construction is scheduled to be completed by the summer of 2025.
