Franklin County Solid Waste has launched an aluminum can collection competition between local schools. Solid Waste Coordinator Ally Hall spoke about this program at Capital Day School earlier this morning.

Beginning on February 3rd, 2025, students will start collecting aluminum cans. Once a week, the cans will be collected by county staff and taken to Taylor Recycling. The competition will wrap up on February 28th, 2025. The school that collects the most cans will receive all the money raised by this recycling initiative.

At present there are five local schools who have agreed to participate in this competition. In addition to Capital Day, Franklin County High School (Frankfort, Kentucky), Western Hills High School – Frankfort, KY, Frankfort High School, and Collins Lane Elementary have already agreed to take part in this contest. However, we would like to have all local schools actively involved. The winner will be announced on March 5, 2025.
