Extension will allow more people to sign up for the discount, group-purchasing program
Frankfort, KY – Solarize Frankfort has extended the program’s enrollment deadline to September 30, 2024, offering residents an additional two months to sign up for a free solar site assessment and receive an estimate for a solar system designed for their home. “We’ve had a lot of interest in the program,” said Andy McDonald, Coordinator for Solarize Frankfort, “and this gives people more time to sign up and consider if solar might be a good option for them.” The program aims to complete installation of all projects contracted this year by December 31st.
Solarize Frankfort is a group-purchasing program organized by the Kentucky Solar Energy Society, in partnership with the City of Frankfort, Franklin County Fiscal Court, KSU Land Grant Program, UK Cooperative Extension Service, and Apogee-Climate & Energy Transitions. The program offers free solar site assessments and connects residents with pre-screened, experienced solar installers who offer discounted installations to Solarize participants.
In July Doug and Kathy Roney installed a ground mount solar array in their backyard through the Solarize Frankfort program. “I had been thinking about putting in solar for a few years,” said Mr. Roney. “Solarize Frankfort made the process of choosing an installer easy, knowing that they had pre-screened the contractor and checked all their qualifications. In the end, we couldn’t be more pleased with the work done by Daily Green Power, the contractor.”
Solarize Frankfort has helped install solar on more than 30 Frankfort homes since 2023. In addition, the Franklin County Cooperative Extension Service, a campaign partner, recently decided to install a large array on their office near Lakeview Park, along with an emergency battery back-up system.
Solarize Frankfort is one of four Solarize campaigns serving central Kentucky this year. The other campaigns are in Lexington, Louisville, and Boyle County. The Frankfort campaign is open to residents of Franklin County and the surrounding counties of Anderson, Woodford, Scott, Owen, and Henry County. Shelby County residents can participate through Solarize Louisville. The program’s two installation partners, Pure Power Solar and Daily Green Power, were selected through a rigorous bidding process based on their experience, qualifications, and competitive prices.
